Gregory relocated to the Fresno area from Columbus, OH, 22 years ago at the request of his employer at that time, Tyco SimplexGrinnell, now the largest fire protection company in the world. At SimplexGrinnell, Gregory worked in the company’s highly specialized technical team of Systems Engineers in the Professional Services department. In this role, Gregory was one of the first 100,000 professionals within the U.S. earning the distinct designation of Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer by passing the 6 required certification exams on networking and server technologies required by Microsoft. Some of Gregory’s responsibilities were implementing, configuring, training, and providing customer support of custom integrated building automation systems to SimplexGrinnell’s Fire and Life Safety customers. Gregory specialized on implementing some of SimplexGrinnell’s key customers, more notably, the IRS, USPS and Shell Gas & Oil to name a few.
After 7 years with SimplexGrinnell, Gregory made the decision to follow a new opportunity with a software company based out of Scottsdale, AZ named Informative Graphics. After just a short time there, Gregory along with 9 other employees from Informative Graphics split off and created a subsidiary company named Avolve Software. This new endeavor was to create a software solution, ProjectDox, allowing city, county and state governments to perform permit plan reviews electronically. Since 2008, Avolve Software has delivered the industry’s leading Electronic Plan Review software. Having started with a single mission in mind — automate the manual, paper-intensive, and frequently inefficient building plan review process. Today, over 150 of North America’s city, county, and state governments use ProjectDox to transform their plan review processes. No longer a subsidiary of Informative Graphics, Avolve is the largest, independent and privately owned software vendor dedicated exclusively to eplan review. Gregory has held many positions over the past 15 years with Avolve but is currently serving as the Director of Avolve’s Support, Installation and Infrastructure teams.
Outside of Gregory’s professional career, he has been a homeowner in the Fresno area for the last 21 years and has served on the HOA Board of Directors for his community for the past 5 years as Vice President. During his volunteer service on the HOA Board, he has spent countless hours volunteering his time performing beautification and improvement projects helping to better the community. As part of Gregory’s desire to engage and learn about all aspects of local services that support his community, he attended the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Citizen Academy and after completion became an active Alumni Member honoring and serving our community and local law enforcement through volunteer service.
Gregory feels that his time as a youth, being a member of the Boy Scouts of America and being nominated to attend programs like the Governor’s Summer Symposium geared towards advancing youth knowledge in local government, instilled a strong sense of civic duty which he still feels a strong sense to fulfill in his adult life. Gregory is honored to be appointed to ESD 7 as Commissioner and is dedicated to the fiscal stewardship of taxpayer dollars in supporting the brave men and women of the Fresno Fire Department.
